Splinter Dimensional Web AR Adventure

Splinter Dimensional was a 5-day augmented reality scavenger hunt as part of the Luminato Festival.
This WEB AR scavenger hunt was one of the first of its kind, using web-based mobile augmented reality to power the experience. A narrative based outdoor adventure, Splinter Dimensional was designed to get people back outside in summer 2021.
Upon arriving at the start of the experience, players would scan a QR code to load up a web app. We designed and built the in 8th Wall and really had to push the boundaries of the mobile web technology (shout out to Roneilla Bumanlag).
Players are guided by the Captain through a training stage where they learn the hunt works and how to close the rifts.
Using the phone’s image recognition software, players would be able to find and close the rifts throughout the park with the help of audio clues by The Captain.
We built in some extra fun features. Once completing your mission, you could take a photo through the web app with The Captain and also place a star in an augmented galaxy next to all the other “fellow travellers” who also reached the end
